An Inventory of Possible Gods
This installation begins with a collection of driftwood and pieces of bark washed ashore along the Sicilian coast. Gradually the collection evolves into a taxonomy of forms the collector began to see: mountains, faces, human figures, animals, and something in between. The primordial forms feel older than the wood itself, as if they were the ultimate memory of life. Is there something within the material, no longer wood but not yet stone, trying to make itself visible? Why does the sea, the wind, the currents, or erosion that keeps bringing back the same figures?
In collaboration with the Madrid-based improvisation project En Busca del Pasto, who composed the soundtrack accompanying the recording of the installation.
